Wednesday, March 9, 2011 Y 2:54 PM I must confess I found this book a bit boring. Maybe it’s because it follows my favourite book and therefore doesn't live up to my expectations. Maybe it’s because Eric doesn't make as much of an appearance in this novel as he did in the previous one; which sort of links to my first point. In Dead as a Doornail, Eric has returned to his old self but can't remember anything that happened whilst he was under the witches spell and living with Sookie, and it's driving him nuts. He's trying anything and everything to try and coax it out of Sookie, but she's just too afraid of the leverage he'll have if he discovers she killed Debbie Pelt (whose parents have hired Private Investigators to sniff around Sookie's life) to tell him anything, including all the steamy sex they had. The storyline is basically that everyone is in some sort of trouble. The shifters are being targeted by a serial killer. Sookie's brother Jason is on the verge of being killed due to the werepanthers suspecting him of being the killer. Alcide's father is contending to be the next pack leader of the Shreveport Weres and the other candidate is willing to resort to underhand methods in order to secure the position. Tara has a new vampire lover who just SMELLS like trouble. And Fangtasia is having trouble keeping their bartenders alive. Sookie is also in trouble, though she's not sure what from. Is it the Fellowship of the Sun, getting revenge for her freeing Godric? Has the shifter serial killer sensed her "otherness"? And to top if all off, Vampire Bill Compton has a new girlfriend, who is the exact opposite of Sookie, and convinced that Sookie is desperate to rekindle her relationship with Bill. My Verdict What I really like about this novel is that it doesn’t just concentrate on Sookie’s life. It expands of the stories of a wide plethora of characters, which can be a bit confusing, but it does stop you from getting bored of primarily following Sookie’s life as Harris does in the previous novels.
